The Russian dynasty was founded by Viking Rurik in 862. The Mongols invaded the country in 1237. Most of the major cities were destroyed by the Mongols. In 1861, serfdom was abolished from Russia. In 1980s, the country began to experience supply shortages. Imported goods began to flood into the country. Putin’s rise to power is a significant event in Russian history. Putin brought about political stability in the country.


Russia spans over an area of 10,672,000 miles. The country covers all climatic zones except the tropical region. The Russian territory is comprised of vast plains. In the eastern regions, mountain ranges are located. The country is a large source of mineral resources. Most of the Russian territory lies in the temperate belt. The main river of the country is Volga which flows to the Caspian Sea. The mid Russian regions are known for the mixed forests.


The GDP of Russia is approximately 1.47 trillion $ which makes it as one of the most developed countries in the world. The growth rate of the country is quite high at 4%. Natural resources like petroleum and natural gas constitute for a major portion in the GDP. Russia exported nearly $376 billion of petroleum products in the year 2010 which makes it one of the top most countries in the world in terms of export. The industries constitute of automobile, manufacturing, petroleum, gas and energy. The major importers of Russia are China, Japan and USA. Medicine education in Russia has also contributed to the country’s GDP since many foreign students come to pursue higher education.
