Located in the city of Vigan, The University of Northern Philippines is the oldest, largest and first state university in Northern Luzon. The Vigan High School is where the journey of the university started from in 1906. In the year 1931, the institution expanded to become the Ilocos Sur Trade School which was converted to Northern Luzon School of Arts and Trades in 1951. However, under the General Appropriations Act of 1960 the institution went back to become Ilocos Sur School of Arts and Trades (ISSAT) and finally to the University of Northern Philippines in 1965.
The colleges and degrees offered by the university are as follows:
Graduate School – Master of Arts in Nursing
Open University – Master of Arts in Nursing
College of Health Sciences – Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Community Health Management, Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing-Step Ladder (final two batches)
College of Medicine – Doctor of Medicine
College of Nursing – Bachelor of Science in Nursing
International students desirous of studying at the University of Northern Philippines have to appear for an admission test termed as the Foreign Student’s Admission Test.
They have to submit the following documents for it:
Correctly and completely accomplished Application Form
Two (2) pcs. identical 2” x 2” recent pictures, colour, with red background and name tag
Transcript of Records/Scholastic Records duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin or legal residence.
Photocopy of Verified Certification of Registration (ACR) for Resident Immigrant Aliens (bring the original copy)
Photocopy of Passport and Student Visa for Non-Resident Aliens (bring the original copies)
The university aims to train its students in the right morality to help the common masses overcome their medical problematic conditions. It also give students scope to practice medicine through internships and for this end,
they are tied up with the following organisations:

The university takes active measures in ensuring that student development takes place in a proper way. Regular extracurricular activities are encouraged and many students organisations and bodies exist. Attempts are made to encourage the development of fitness of the students along with the promotion of national and multi-cultural development.
